Master Lok - 6th Degree Hapkido Black Belt
A Native of Hong Kong of the 70’s, Master Michael Lok was exposed to Hapkido in his childhood days.
After watching action movies and growing up in a family with a Martial Arts background, Michael was encouraged to practise by his father. Michael soon started to practise on a daily basis, and was determined to be the best in Hapkido.
After many years of hard training in a Hapkido School, Michael Lok received his Black Belt 1st Degree on 1985.
Michael was also an active competitor and won numerous trophies in tournaments and sparring competitions. In 1985, he won the Canadian Open ITF Heavy Weight Championship. The tournament days went on for years until 1996, the year Michael Lok Moved to Richmond B.C.
Master Lok opened his first Hapkido School in a small space of 1000 sq feet. Being one of the first “Pioneers of Hapkido” in British Columbia, Master Lok had a lot of obstacles to overcome.
“No one knew what Hapkido was” Master Lok said. It was a tough time for the next five years to come.
In 2001, Master Lok decided to move to a larger space to give another boost to his Hapkido School. The new school approximately 3000 sq ft in size, was an over night success. The school became amazingly popular. Lok’s Hapkido School soon became the largest Hapkido School in Canada!
In 2003, Master Lok received his Black Belt Sixth Degree Sanctioned by the Korean New Martial Arts Federation.
In 2004 Master Lok travelled to the European Championship in England. He was Interviewed and featured as the “The Next Generation” on the cover of the Korean Martial Arts Magazine.
In 2005, After Numerous appearances on TV interviews, and commercials, Master Lok had a radio talk-show for six month on a weekly interview.
“I teach Hapkido everyday, It is part of my daily duty”, says Master Lok who is one of the few functional instructors that demonstrates his techniques.
In 2007, Master Michael Lok was sanction as a Certified Instructor for the Korea Hapkido Federation. Lok’s Hapkido School is the only certified Hapkido school located in Richmond B.C.
